At Booma Women Cooperative, we believe in the power of women, tradition, and nature. Born from the heart of our community, our cooperative is a vibrant movement led by women who are reviving ancestral knowledge and transforming it into opportunity.
We specialize in crafting organic skincare products, nutrient-rich nuts, and wholesome cooking oils—all sustainably sourced from indigenous trees like mongongo, and other non-timber forest products. Every product we create is a celebration of traditional skills, environmental stewardship, and the strength of women working together to build a better future. From seed to skin and kitchen, our story is one of resilience, heritage, and hope.
Booma Women Cooperative is a community-driven initiative committed to empowering women by preserving and promoting traditional skills, indigenous knowledge, and sustainable practices. We support local women artisans in transforming time-honored techniques into thriving livelihoods through the creation of high-quality, organic products.
Rooted in cultural heritage and environmental stewardship, the cooperative specializes in eco-friendly goods derived from indigenous forest resources such as mongongo (Schinziophyton rautanenii), and other native non-timber forest products.
These natural ingredients are carefully crafted using ancestral wisdom to promote healthy skin and holistic well-being, while fostering economic independence and pride in cultural identity.

Booma Women Cooperative is located in the Sichiyasa area of Mukuni Village, near the world-renowned Victoria Falls in southern Zambia. Our home lies within the dry Baikiaea forest, a unique ecosystem known for its Zambezi teak (Baikiaea plurijuga) and the nutrient-rich mongongo tree (Schinziophyton rautanenii), which thrives on the Kalahari’s sandy dunes.
The mongongo tree is a remarkable species, deeply adapted to arid environments. It produces a hard-shelled nut encased in a sweet, edible fruit. Rich in protein, essential fatty acids, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin E, mongongo nuts are a vital source of nutrition for local communities. The oil extracted from these nuts is prized for its moisturizing and protective properties, making it ideal for both cooking and natural skincare.

We are committed to sustainable practices that protect our environment and preserve resources for future generations.
